so much stuff + such small space

i used to feel that space needed to be LARGE in order to feel comfortable and at home... but right now, i feel pretty {at home} considering the space and what we have in our humble abode~ for a project, i decided to map out what is exactly in our space and well...... there's a lot of STUFF stuffed inside here~ hahahaha!

are you a maximalist or a minimalist?

inspiration

lately i've been really into inspiration and the notion that it can truly come from anywhere at any given time as long as you are open to it. i definitely have to say that there is a part of me where i tend to think that something is a certain way and therefore believe that it is so and may dismiss the whole thing without truly finding out what it is about (although after entering art school, it has changed that part of me quite a bit). recently inspiration has been entering into my life from left/right/up/down/front/back/2D/3D/4D/wherever else it may come from... and it has truly been an eye opening experience.

on the subject of inspiration from different places, here are a few sites that have tickled my brain lately~

village {type co-op} + {fun type!}

taryn hiroshima {graphic designer} + {wonderful friend}

lux typographics {type <3} + {experimentation}
louise fili {food pkg extrodiaire} + {eye candy}

juliette show store {fashion shop} + {creative sisters}

cassette {clothing company + photorganic}

i've been bitten!

typography... well letters in general have always been something that i found myself doodling whilst talking on the phone or when it came to 'drawing' something, but now after taking one type design class and currently in the concurrent class, i think the type-bug has officially bitten me. the more i learn about it, the more fascinated i become with it and reading isn't even my favorite past-time. (but it's ok... a type designer that i admire has stated that they don't necessarily enjoy reading either, but is a type-addict).

anyways~ here's some freehand type that i did awhile ago just for fun~ oooh.
i <3 type.

i {heart} work : kenya hara + MUJI

recently there was a design conference and kenya hara was a guest speaker. (fyi: he's the head designer for japanese brand MUJI) unfortunately, i couldn't make it to the conference but i've always wanted to read up on his philosphies and his thoughts behind where he comes up with the designs for MUJI. now... i have found his book! (in english)

one of the many books on my 'to get' list...

i'm not sure where they are or why they are doing what they do, but for some strange reason found this video amusing... esp. since they're dancing next to some type.

what kind of dancing is this? does anyone know? {palitroche}

shopaholic : i LOVE anthropologie!

going to school and currently not working (although i am always open for any cool/exciting/enticing/interesting/beautiful/fun projects/jobs) i am not in the place to be shopping extravagantly. but being a girl, i do fantasize about where i would shop and what i would get at this particular shop. i must admit, right now, if i could shop only at one place, i would put all my egss in a basket called anthropologie.

thanks for shopping with me~ :) if you know of any cute places to shop, please share~ i would love to find out about cute places to shop~

beautiful human beings

there are people who become self-centered, self-obsessed, and completely self-righteous once they become known/famous. ok, i think many... but i feel that it is due to human nature that people tend to become that way. but within those who are gifted (or lucky) enough to be placed on such pedestal, there are the few who are still humble, humane, and whole-heartedly genuine. to those individuals, i can't begin to say how much i respect them. i hope that regardless of what happens in my own life, that i will never forget the importance of respect for others and the thankfulness that i feel for all who have supported me thus far.

anyways~ the feeling/thought came about recently when i contacted (on a whim) a type designer who i have admired since being introduced to a type faced called switch.

{switch}

her name is andrea tinnes (typecuts). if you are into typography, def. check her out. her work is amazing!

so~ while searching her website,
i noticed that she had an e-mail address and although i've never done this before, i decided to contact this individual (who in my mind is on a HIGH typographic pedestal) just to let her know how much i appreciated her work. to be honest, i was not expecting a reply back b/c... who am i? but to my surprise and very humbling experience, she wrote back (the next day!) and simply relayed her thoughts of gratitude for the e-mail i sent. a complete stranger, living somewhere far far away, who i've never met, decided to write back. i was touched. it made me realize that a small gesture, a thought, a genuine feeling, can travel miles... and can make an impact on an individual.

i hope that one day my work can touch individuals... and to also connect to people on a human level also. because at the end of the day, we are all connected...

new sewing machine + 2 hr. project

this past christmas i was fortunate enough to receive a new sewing machine as a gift (thank you hunny~), but have not had the time to use it... until yesterday. it has been sitting next to me for weeks and i've been itching to try it out. -finally- i decided to put everything aside and spend some time with my new janome machine. oh... all i can say is.. i <3 it!
so~ this semester i am taking a class entitled 'advanced image making' where, as the instructor says, "we do things fast and dirty here". each project is assigned and finished within 3 hours. so working with the same spirit in mind i thought, "hey, i'm just going to start creating something and see where it takes me~" and well... this is what i came up with in 2 hours. :)

{a t-shirt eco bag}

i made it out of an old t-shirt that i found around the house~ it's 100% cotton so can be washed when it gets dirty~ another baggy for groceries~ :)

{i love this sewing machine stitch}

i can't wait to play with the machine again~

studio {love} : enamel. + another work*s by au

i have been following enamel. (a design firm located in tokyo, japan) for quite some time now and their collaborations within the studio (graphic design + textile + different materials) are absolutely breathtaking. they recently did an artist collaboration with au cellphone company and +81 plus eight one (graphic design magazine) to bring a product, which incorporates cellphones + art/design. this is what they came up with.

all i can say is... where can i get one? :)
......................................................................................................................

{you can check out other artists who also were part of the au artist collaboration here.}
